BC Chicken Growers' Association

The BC Chicken Growers' Association was founded in 1957 as a non-profit organization to unite commercial chicken growers in BC and work towards a more stable industry.  The Association acts as a liaison between the chicken growers, other branches of the chicken industry and the government.  There are 10 directors on the Association that are elected from and by the membership of approximately 340 producers.  Because chicken is grown all over BC, it is important that each region is represented, so there are 2 directors representing Vancouver Island, 2 representing the Interior and 6 representing the Lower Mainland.

The directors serve on various industry committees and organizations including the BC Chicken Marketing Board’s Pricing and Production Advisory Committee, BC Agriculture Council, BC Poultry Association, and the BC Sustainable Poultry Farming Group, as well as Biosecurity, Food Safety and Animal Welfare Committees.  To keep up to date, the directors meet monthly and hold regular producer meetings in each region to keep the membership informed.

With farms off limits to visitors due to biosecurity protocols, the BC Chicken Growers’ Association, in partnership with the BC Broiler Hatching Egg Producers’ Association, has developed Poultry in Motion, a mobile mini barn, in an effort to increase public awareness and educate consumers.  This fully equipped mini barn has been featured at fairs, schools and agriculture events around the province.  For further information, including where Poultry in Motion will be next, please visit www.poultryinmotion.ca
